Why Don't Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors Require Sludge Reflux And Backwashing?

The biofilm itself retains activated sludge, so there is no need for reflux.
Through aeration, the membrane surface can be turbulently renewed, and the aging sludge can be settled and discharged from the system.
Backwashing or immersion washing is necessary in some processes, otherwise the membrane will fail after a long time.
